Put A Secure Green Future
On the Ballot in Your Community!
THANK YOU to all of you who worked so hard
to get this question onto district ballots across the state!
A public policy question for the November 2008 ballot.
People concerned about climate change and their
economic future are putting a Secure Green Future
local ballot question on the November 2008 ballot.
The question will appear in selected House districts. It will
call for decisive action to address the urgent triple-threat
of sky-rocketing food and fuel costs, an unraveling economy,
and climate crisis. Time is short, and further delay is dangerous.
By voting for the SGF, people can speak out in favor of full mobilization
of our society’s resources to arrest climate change and build local green
economies that include sustainable regional food systems.
The Secure Green Future Question
(as proposed)
Shall the representative from this district be instructed to vote in favor of legislation that:
- reduces greenhouse gas emissions in Massachusetts by 80% by 2020, and
- phases out tax incentives for energy-intensive projects, while expanding job creation
programs for locally-owned businesses and cooperatives involved in renewable energy,
conservation, and sustainable agriculture?
Local ballot questions are non-binding. But
they are a great way to educate the community on critical issues
and compel elected officials to take meaningful action. In the long run,
they can help build the network of concerned citizens and organizations
who together can turn things around in the Commonwealth and beyond.
To get the question on the ballot in a particular House district,
200 signatures of registered voters must be collected in the district by July 7.
Please consider joining one of our district action groups
working to collect these signatures.
This Committee for a Secure Green Future (CSGF)
is a nonpartisan committee formed to put the Secure Green Future question before voters.
